O&G Company Uses Web-Enabled Business Intelligence Solution to Streamline Data Gathering and Reporting
Stonebridge created a Web-enabled solution that provides a rapidly growing independent energy company with a simplified way of gathering, managing, and analyzing production data.
Our client’s successful acquisition strategy had produced an unintended management challenge. From a production-reporting perspective, the vast majority of the client’s 20-plus district offices operated as standalone companies, with unique reporting rules and different report formats. Many offices were not yet connected to the corporate intranet.
As a result, creating enterprise monthly reports on oil field production was time-consuming and too often based on inaccurate or incomplete data. Daily production data had to be gathered and summarized from more than 100 databases and then compiled weekly into a variety of spreadsheets. The weekly reports were then manually compiled into monthly production reports and distributed to numerous internal departments to perform such functions as royalty calculations, expense reporting, and well allocations.
To solve the business problem, Stonebridge designed a Web-enabled solution that streamlined the entire process. First, Stonebridge consultants cleansed and consolidated data from more than 100 Access databases into a single Oracle database. Next, we used an XML/Javascript Web application to create a well data-entry system that streamlined field-data collection. Production data is now fed into a Stonebridge-designed and -developed data warehouse that support two data marts. The production data mart combines field data with accounting data. The forecasting data mart merges current field data, allocated field data, and forecasted field data. Production data reports can be accessed via the corporate intranet and externally through a secure Web connection. We also architected the system for easy portability to a wireless platform.
